Working it out . . . knitting!
I recently read an article where the writer talked about her mental health issues and how knitting has been a crucial part of her theapeutic regimine. Now she doesn't advocate going off ones meds in exchange for the knitting experience, but she did say that she keeps knitting projects in the works all around her and when she has a mental break, the rhythemic motions of knitting (or sometimes just ripping apart a project in progress) brings her back from wherever it is that she goes during one her "episodes." I have thought about this over the last couple of days (while I'm knitting, of course) and I'd have to agree that there is definitely something to be said for working it out - whatever it is - while knitting. I've done projects in the past where I know I worked my worries out of my head and into my project - at least it felt that way anyway. I wouldn't even say by looking at the completed project one could ever tell if it was knit with worry or frustration or whatever. It just came out looking like a wonderfully knitted project. Maybe knitting won't solve all the problems and issue in my life, but it sure helps. :)

New at Blogging . . .
So a lot has changed in the last few months. After 16 years in the legal field, first as a Paralegal, and most recently as a Court Judicial Assistant, I found myself unemployed after being laid off from the Court System in July 2010. Whoever would have thought I'd be classified as "over-qualified"?! Really??? Yet the few job opportunties that were available netted no results.
Then I heard that the local yarn shop was for sale. So I checked in to it. It wasn't for sale at a reasonable price, but still I wondered if this would be something I could do. I had always half-joked that I wanted to own a yarn shop and spend my days knitting away and helping others learn to knit. When I mentioned it to my husband, his reaction was more of "how much have you thought about this?" so I outlined my thoughts and plans of starting my own yarn shop from scratch. Somewhat suprisingly he jumped on the bandwagon, and started pushing me to go forward with the idea. He even provided the upfront funding investment! Each little step taken was blessed by the Good Lord too! So here I am - having opened the shop on October 19th, 2010. I just finished my 3rd week of business and each week has been better than the last.
It is my sincerest hope to build "KNITSENSE" into the most wonderful fiber place on Earth. The shop has a very neat and clean look, but with a bright and homey feeling. There are a couple great areas for hanging out to knit - the most recent is the "man cave", which is a small rustic feel room with a couch and an electric fireplace. Of course, we have some great yarns for knitting and crocheting projects; and we are working on providing supplies for cross-stitch as well.
If you haven't come by Knitsense yet - please do! We are at 108 S. Pikes Peak in Florence, Colorado. We are open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm. closed Sunday/Monday.
our phone is 719-784-3334

Thanks and happy knitting,
Dawn :)
